The door of my bedroom buckled under a tremendous force, the banging filling the room. "Onii-chan! Onii-chan!" came the wailing cries, easily filling the minute dwelling.
I rubbed the night from my eyes and stood in the dark, navigating around the mess of my room. I tackled the doorknob of the bending plank of wood. A gigantic youthful face filled the sky of the opposite dark room, barely visible in the ghost-light. After a drawn out yawn, I began to speak, "Miyu? What is it? It's the middle of the night and I have school tomorrow."
"I'm scared Onii-chan! I had a nightmare." she blurted out, not using the courtesy of her quiet 'Onii-chan voice'.
"Well what do you want me to do Miyu? Can't you ask mom or Onee-san?"
"I don't want to, they're scary."
"And I'm not scary?"
"No, you're tiny." she said rather bluntly.
Ignoring her slight insult, I realised I couldn't leave her alone. Walking out, I shot up my arms, requesting for her to pick me up. She did so, allowing me in her soft palms, "Miyu, what happened in your nightmare?"
"It was that monster from the movie you were watching with Onee-san."
"Miyu, you weren't meant to watch that! You sneaked in, didn't you?"
She nodded shamefully.
I sighed, "Anyway, what do you want now?"
"I want to sleep with you Onii=chan."
"But my room..."
She pouted, "I wish I was tiny too, so I could go in your room with you."
"Maybe, but you can't fit in at your size."
"Please Onii-chan? I'm really scared and tired."
I sighed again, there was no way she could sleep with me. Unless...
"Goodnight Onii-chan." Miyu spoke into my room happily, remembering now to use her gentle voice. She nuzzled her head into the pillow, her face only a few inches away from the door.
"'Night Miyu." I wished back, curling up back in my bed, hiding under the thin blanket. I shielded my ears with the pillow as she began to gently snore, blowing a humid miasma of warm air into my tiny room.
The things I do for my sister.
