I say it's because you're not interested in it. Reading European history is exactly like this to me, it's ant history. All the thousands of meaningless titles and fiefdoms and abstract bureaucratic nonsense. HRE Elections and Hapsburgs and endless inbred bloodlines and tiny petty land disputes.
On the other hand, for vast periods of history China was a gigantic empire in a land of gigantic empires. Their internal history can be boring, but reading about warfare between states like the Tang Dynasty, Qin Dynasty, the Nanzhao Kingdom, Northern Jin, Qing Empire, Tibetan Empire, Uyghur Khanate, Xiongnu Confederation, The Tungning Kingdom, etcetera. It's more interesting when it's relevant to you, and then you work backwards to justify your prejudice.
