Well here's the problem. If you agree with any form of background check that is.
If you have no licencing but some sort of firearm specific background check (which you say you don't) you basically have a form of licencing, a system where if required officials can in fact pull up records, etc.
If you have no licencing and non firearm specific background check, well now you have heavy potential violation of your privacy, because in order to have non firearm specific background checks you allow anyone to perform a background check. Maybe you can have a bunch of steps for a person to be allowed to perform a background check on you, plus your consent, but a system like that has a lot of room for people to take advantage of other people. Remember it's not just criminals who are barred from guns, your criminal record is already public info, you can request a court to disclose that. It's your mental health records and other troubles record that i don't want made public information ever. I don't even like how criminal records are public information, it should absolutely not be without your consent.
In a perfect world you wouldn't need a background check or anything more than money to buy a gun, hell maybe not even money. But in our non perfect world, licences are cost efficient, don't violate your privacy too much and really aren't that big of a hassle to get. And as far as i know, currently, there is no tying of your PAL to your drivers licence or anything else, they're standalone IDs, so it's not like a cop can pull up your PAL status at a traffic stop. The problem with licencing is that your government knows who has a gun, i really don't think that's that big of a deal if you have a system where government doesn't actually know who has what gun and how many of like our current NR system.>even if I carefully follow all applicable laws
Lol. You should break every unfair law you can get away with. Duty to disobey and all that.
