Yeah, this is why Canadian government has been clamping down on these types of marriages. You now have to jump through hoops to proove you've been in a relationship for at least 2, or is it 4, years: with pictures, and you're heavily scruitenized before they'll let you have citizenship through marriage.
They're also doing it because so many people have an underground market to do this on purpose, and people are willing to pay you to come here to fast track citizenship by letting them marry you for $$$, and it's understood in advance you're getting a divorce. Shit gets messy when the stupid morons involved don't realize that person can also then try to take your house too.
Guy falls in love with this woman from some "spanish" speaking country, they get married. she comes to live with him. he's immediately relegated to sleeping in the basement. for some reason stays with her for years before finally cluing in and tries to get a divorce. She doesn't work, so court makes him split his rrsp / pension, as well as pay her alimony because 'life style'. they have no kids.
