yeah, I mean, there's obviously a ton of overlap, like I said they are quite similar belief systems. I wouldn't put it past Ichikawa to have learned about gnosticism too and allowed the manga to embrace those parallels. the difference, I think, is that gnosticism is about achieving knowledge, whereas buddhism is overall about escaping the cycle of reincarnation. phos and other gems are essentially constantly killed, only to come back in an altered state to suffer more, so I think that aspect is more buddhist than gnostic. but you are right, the different classes of beings, phos's attempts to escape via knowledge, etc all exist in the overlap between gnosticism and buddhism, if not even slightly more into the gnostic category.
