I, like most Peanuts fans I think, regard Race For Your Life as being a mostly bad special. With that being said though there are moments I really enjoy. Charlie Brown filling into that general leadership role is a nice moment and honestly pretty fitting for him characteristically, given his actions on the baseball field.
I also genuinely enjoy the scenes in which the kids are stranded in the mountains, there's a lot of funny interactions involved in that. Charlie telling off Peppermint Patty is a direct reference to the Thanksgiving Special (as seen in >>120774070
post), serving to show just how much his character has changed because he filled in this leadership role among the boys. Peppermint Patty quite likes Charlie's assertiveness, too, she very happily eats her cereal after getting told off by him. It has quite a bit of cute moments like this.
With that being said, I'd absolutely agree that the film would be much better if the main antagonists were taken out entirely.
