Mid 90s to mid 00s I'd say. Kids WB was as good as cable, and actually copped some shows back and forth even. Fox Box was also decent, and even when 4Kids took over up until 2005 it was still somewhat decent. Kirby, Sonic and F-Zero got shows which blew my mind as a kid, because aside from the old Sonic and Mario cartoons I didn't think video game shows were all that common and contemporary for that time period. And even if some dubs were pozzed like One Piece I was grateful for being introduced to it anyways.
Fox Kids was alright, bit of an aquired taste however. It felt like it was the "Sega" of Saturday morning shit, whereas Kids WB was the primo "Nintendo" stuff. All of it was good tho not complaining or picking sides
I will say though that some stuff like CBS and ABC had some rather cringy programming blocks, saved only by a few stellar shows like Recess. Does anyone remember that Tarzan and Buzz Lightyear show?
I'd say literally anything besidea a few bizarre UPN outliers as a child during thst time period made for good watching, we basically ate like kings no matter where you were or your status was. Now it feels like even cable is dead for kids, and public TV hasn't had an earnest push for cartoons since 2010 (Apparently everything is now just 2 hour live action edutainment blocks which must suck for kids without internet, but I highly doubt at this point most kids DON'T have at least Internet connected smartphones right out of the womb).
We're a lucky breed OP, I can't begin to fathom how kids these days find solace in watching silver spoon YT personalities and game streams on Twitch a suitable replacement for good ol' animation, but the recent popularity of Hazbin gives me hope that someday either web or streaming will take its place. I really do think the time of scheduled animation surrounding a culture of weekends and kids is never coming back, but as long as there is something there to fill the void I guess its not all that bad.
