But some racists say that it's the real racism, sexism, whatever, in order to deflect and deny their own racism etc. Bear that in mind so you aren't fed a line of bullshit by them.
What these performative progressives are doing is noting the aesthetics - literally the way the character looks - noting that there are a lot people who look like that in a particular category and therefore asking 'what if the character was probably part of that group?' and then doing it.
So they don't think in stereotypes, but while this line of thinking isn't really morally harming anyone and there's no real proof it stereotypes that person in the eyes of the child viewers, it shows they CAN think in the same unilateral way, i.e. thinking only about surface elements and in large generalized groups like the racists do, so they're not the best place to fight racists.
This is because they don't think outside the race box - or in it, for starters - and don't know that they should question all the things a racist says. The unilateralism is why they go after random accusations of racism like Chris Pratt, to the point of calling his black colleague Zoe Saldana a 'conditional nigger'.
On public twitter.
Then there's people trying to deconstruct 'whiteness' like Robin diAngelo by saying that 'Western morals' should be played down, or other morals should be brought it. Instead she should be saying to keep them, but question if Western Values are even Western anyway or do other countries have similar ethics, yes, and people are ultimately very similar!
