If you want to compile everything, then it's perfect for you. I used to use Gentoo all the time. I've been using Arch for several years now, because binaries are more convenient on a laptop. You don't have to like how Gentoo does it, but the Gentoo model works and is good. Just maybe not for you.>>81050895
Yeah that's why I switched to Arch (like I said above, binaries are much more convenient for a laptop), but I have to be honest: Gentoo was fuckin' sick. The performance was awesome and I had everything exactly the way I wanted it. Arch has "bloat" but it's acceptable. Gentoo is reaaaaally fun and comfy though when you have it all tweaked your way. Moreso than Arch. But Arch is more convenient. So there is your trade-off.
Compiling everything is really how a FOSS system should be run in an ideal world.
