I mean, they could always shoot for interdependence (two strong individuals are involved with each other but haven't had to sacrifice anything or compromise for it), which, honestly, would make for a better show of strength than simply being independent. Sunset gets romantically involved with SciTwi, not out of any sense of need, but because they simply want to be together. Should the relationship not work out after being taken to that level, they can still go back to just being friends with neither of them the worse for wear; their love was not a key feature of the two, it was not something that was needed for either of them to be happy and satisfied with life, it was naught but a plus with no minuses. And, well, if that plus couldn't stick around, then they're still meeting the quota for their well-being and not getting wrecked over it.
Then again, considering the target demographic, that kind of thing would go over most of the audience's heads. Hell, there are plenty of grown people I've met who have no idea what interdependence is.>>29731786
