>>32423795>well, we saw trixie learn a spell. it took effort but not that much.
To be fair, we don't know how long Glimmer had been tutoring her for; or if Trixie had any training in magic previously (which she probably did, for her magic show.) Trixie could reasonably be an exception.>a spell can be learned prior and called upon when needed,
But if each spell takes a year to learn, you're still just preparing for the moment you might need to use it. Yes, teleportation is useful and worth the effort to learn, but what if you face a situation that could be solved with a spell you don't know? A spell to solve the problem might exist, but it's hardly useful to learn said spell in advance, especially if the process takes a long time. The spontaneity of unicorn magic is limited because it's so situational, outside of general spells like teleportation or telekinesis. The user is always going to be limited due to the nature of spells; unless they're a prodigy like Twilight who can learn every spell for every occasion.
I mean, Lyra, Moondancer and Sunburst all went to Celestia's magic school, and they don't seem to be powerful spellcasters with a trick up their sleeves.
Though I feel we've gotten slightly off subject here, so I'll stop wasting your time and concede.
