The Imperial City of Aurelia, the 'slave city,' 'chain city.' A gargantuan metropolis that sits on the golden strait (now long since empty of gold), it's the administrative center for the Empire and sees trade pass both by the land routes used by the great Jade trade route and the sea lanes that pass into Varagnia and the Nile of Osirai thus leading to a very wealthy burgher-patrician class that clashes with the landed aristocracy who have a mass of titles to back up their inheritance. It's also, unfortunately, a huge slaver market with tens of thousands of slaves being processed daily in the holding pens before being shipped to God's know where. A big source of internal tension is between the Burghurs who seek to use the untapped slave markets of Osir and Nod to supplement their already powerful stranglehold on the spice market and shipping through the great sea. The Aristocrats however still control the military and have a near complete monopoly over wine and crops.
Politics aside, there's a lot to do. See a gladiator fight, get plastered in a bar, get laid at a brothel, watch knights joust, hell watch gays do the latest play by Guillaume Ronan before the Inquisition drags them to the Golden Temple or run off the local Vestusi. The city also has big tracks of urban desert and produces not enough food to feed the entire population so they're heavily reliant on imports. Leading to a situation where even a mild famine in potatoland could be devastating.
Exports: slaves, jade, spices, merchantmen, ships of the line, wine, cannons, etc.
Imports: lots and lots of barley, cattle, herds of every kind, even sea food, and gold.
Ethic composition: 50% Imperial (dark haired, dark eyed, tan skinned), 30% slave (blended peoples), 9% Aurelian (bronze skinned, hairs in all colors, light eyed), 1% Vestusi (olive skinned, curly dark hair, run if they come in a group!).
Note: there also used to be a wizard school but the old believers saw to that.
