“So bad” isn’t fair. all of them are honestly at least OK, just also kind of less alive then I expected them to be sometimes, in a series that tries to evoke such wildly human responses, the canned scenes & consequential takes just reek horribly, and the ones that seem the most short handed/boring basically just have this generic D grade comic book sense about them, and that kind of describes a lot of the first few chapters. I guess you just have highish expectations for a comic that seems to honestly enough want to portray certain themes, it’s just sold slightly short early on, even if it is a fun comic, and rough when those cool actions and interpersonal moments miss the mark by just enough to still be an appreciable and honest (ish, hopefully) attempt, but still off enough to kind of stick with you negatively as either a cop out or just a plainly horrible miss use and killing of a good scene and tension, especially later on.
Funnily enough I think I’m starting to complain more about the second half the series now, because I actually really really enjoyed the post Time skip portion of the series a lot, but it’s an offender of the latter portion of the above to a frankly egregious degree.
FFS the reunion with atom eve and her admission to having an abortion was bad fanfic and LOST tier respectively, when the build up for both was full of potential, suspenseful and well lead up to. That’s were it starts, and really all you really need to know about it, stuff like that just keeps happening. It just makes you cringe to see it when the situation and characters are actually pretty cool by the point and have been set up in every way to succeed, just for those absolute jokes of pages/panels to happen.
