PUNISHER STORYTIME
All this year I'll be posting Punisher comics with a primary focus on the pre-Ennis era, though some Ennis era stuff will also get posted. Expect at least 1 storytime per week.
Last week I storytimed a bunch of stuff. On Halloween I posted Jim Starlin and Bernie Wrightson's Punisher P.O.V. miniseries (which you can still read here: >>96432187 ). Then I posted the finale to Lynn Michaels' story following the aftermath of the "Suicide Run" "event" that ran in The Punisher comics in the early 90s (which you can still read here: >>96452950 ). Then over the weekend I posted arguably one of the best Punisher arcs EVER, "Fortress: Miami" by Chuck Dixon and legendary Silver/Bronze Age artist Russ Heath (which you can still read here: >>96516024 ).
Today we're going to be continuing Chuck Dixon's run on the main Punisher series beginning with what I consider possibly the best single issue Punisher story ever written.
At the end of 1994 Marvel did a poll of their staff of what their favorite issues were that the company had published that year. Then they put out a TPB reprinting the top 10 vote getters as "The Best of Marvel 1994" (or something like that). The 1st issue of today's storytime made the list (and no, I don't remember what the other 9 were, before anyone asks). Its "critical acclaim" from when it came out makes it all the more surprising that it's now mostly forgotten since it deserves every last bit of praise it got at the time.
This is one of my favorite comics ever made. I have read it several times, and I'll read it again today, and I welcome all of /co/ to join me. I promise you guys won't regret it.
BUT WAIT... THERE'S MORE! We're also going to read the next few issue written by fill-in writers including an arc by Abnett & Lanning and another by some random dude(s) who I forget, both of which are pretty fucking awesome, so stick around for those as well.
