I am not talking about this event when I'm talking about feeling empathy for people.
I'm talking about the fact that empathy is not something people have for everyone, it requires a connection and if there is no connection, then you don't feel empathetic towards that person.
If you asked me what I think about 20 people dying in South Africa from some drug related cartel, I'd say I don't care because I have literally zero connection to these individuals.
If you asked me what I think about 20 people dying in my home country I'd naturally be more affected.
And if you asked me what I think about 20 people dying in my city I'd be even more affected.
Empathy is relative and the extreme end of empathy is that you don't actually care.
