Bullshit, what fire code allows for no safe egress from a multi-story building that ISN'T through the burning building itself? If a building is on fire, chances are any typical exits are fucked - but hey, look at fire escapes. Made of in fflammable material so they DON'T CATCH ON CATCH ON FIRE LIKE THE REST OF THE BUILDING.
They are on the outside of the building IN CASE THE INTERIOR IS ON FIRE.
Fix your fucking fire codes and building codes Japan. It's not like fires don't occur during earthquakes either.
This was basically a Shirtwaist of Manhattan tier tragedy - the kind of tragedy that was supposed to inpsire the safety codes that would have prevented THIS tragedy.
But atleast with the Shirtwaist factory tragedy, they HAD A FUCKING FIRE ESCAPE. Even if it had a retarded 2 story drop,
it'd be more survivable than a 3 story dropThis is what gets me about Japan, it comes off as so incredibly advanced, and yet at the same time is incredibly backwards and out of date in so many other ways.
