The only problem with the game is, it's almost too much of a Guts simulator. He's life really was thought, beats the fuck out of the new musou game though.
The game follows when Guts was the black swordsman, and it has stuff that was never in the manga, like the haunted mansion fight.
Semi canon, i guess? It has schierke too.
You need the fan translation for it, if you want text to be in English, it works great.
There might be some other mods too, but i can't remember.
