>>263901818I admittedly didn't watch Dragonball Z as a kid it was just kinda around me, but I was quite affected the night of and morning after. Ended up tearing up in the bathroom at work briefly at the thought that the world might not have enough new great men stepping up to fill in the ranks that we'll continue to lose over the next 20+ years. Dr. Slump, Dragonball, Chrono Trigger, and Dragon Quest are all so iconic and that's just SOME of the work he's contributed to the world. Today I'm doing a bit better overall, but damn this must be how it felt to lose Walt, it's just a vacuum that can NEVER be filled, even if more great men grace our lives.
Ironically the ways Toriyama has affected my life the most personally is probably being the chief inspiration for Gen 1 of Pokemon. I feel about Pokemon how many of you feel about Dragonball. And none of that would be there if Toriyama hadn't created his works and inspired a group of indie devs that Nintendo took under their wing. His work is the Mario 64 of manga, it is impossible to even create without referring back to his craft as a reference.
I've been meaning to read the original Dragonball manga for years. I think it's finally going to be time to start.
