I've been out of the anime game for roughly a decade now. My fondness for the medium was largely displaced by the bombardment of sub par shows delivered by ADV during the early to mid-00s that ultimately ruined them, and set off the domino effect that seems to have killed off Genoen, and now Bandai. Anime will always be dear to me, however, and after catching some late night re-runs on Toonami, I've got a strong desire to rekindle that love I used to have for the whole scene.

So my question is, what are the top notch shows from this past ten year span that I may have missed out on? And before suggestions come in, let me state that I am not down with the moe or harem craze.

Welp, just finished Spice and Wolf, and I gotta say that ending did not bring the closure I was hoping for. I'm yet another soldier in the ranks pulling for a season 3, even though its been a few years with no official announcements.

However, I don't want to let my experience of the story die if the anime doesn't continue. I've never read a LN before, so I was curious if the S&W ones were any good? I'm not expecting "literature," but is the writing of adequate standards? Are there any significant differences between the show and the books? Cause if the source material is sub par, then perhaps it would be best to let it be. Thanks /a/.
