What happened to him?

I've been trying to remember the name of an anime i watched a couple of years ago and i can't for the life of me remember. Unfortunately, the only description i have is extremely vague, but i still hope someone can help.

The one part i remember was during, i believe, the end of season one. they were fighting the main enemy in what i remember to be a very large, circular room, all of the main characters had to split off to fight different enemies, while the leader was in the middle of said room. (btw, they were floating if i remember correctly) they defeated the enemy, and the one statement before finishing him was something along the lines of "take that, you fucking prick."
