Take a step back and consider - what makes a language "useful" what makes it "useless"? Why is Chinese "useful" while Korean is "useless"?
The way I see it, there are two approaches to this subject:
The first- Active- A language is useful to a person if it helps him communicate with other people. In such a case it would mostly depend on where the person lives and who he comes into contact with in his life, for instance, Arabic is useful to me since I need it to conduct business, and English is too, since I speak to people like you on the internet. On the other hand, French is not useful to me in that regard. I do speak to French people on a daily basis, but they are all fluent in other languages I speak (Hebrew or English), so there is little meaning to it.
