He changed his attitude afterwards and became an idealist, in order to atone for that sin by using the "right" methods and risking his own life, but a part of Suzaku still thinks that was the right thing to do (see his Mao-induced flashback).
After losing Euphemia, his anger made him start to slide back towards that more pragmatic and impulsive side of himself, even if he initially tried to reconcile this with his optimistic ideal of changing Japan by working with Charles and becoming Knight of One to do so.
