>>225306776Madoka's lack of self value isn't because she is worthless to her family and friends, rather, her feelings are rooted in being disconnected with the things you have to do to keep society rolling, conceptualized in the hidden violence and risk in the witches. As a girl and as a rich girl at that, she is almost completely insulated and sheltered from this conflict.
Homura by contrast completely lacks these kinds of close connections until madoka, and because of her pre-existing status, independence, and intimate nature with how much the world actually sucks in a way similar to kyouko, develops the opposite viewpoint, seeking not to shelter the world but her single friend. We see her gradually give up everything except madoka. Having experianced the actual cruelty of the world first hand, she doesn't have any interest in letting madoka experiance it. But it's that experiance that madoka ultimately can't let go of, because she is only able to value herself while living like that, not out of some confusion or misunderstanding, but like homura, because of a deliberate choice.
