Pretty much threw it in the dumpster once the hype turned to disappointment and then never re-visited it once I became conscious of some of these storytelling techniques. I think your intuition is correct that there is a difference between metanarratives and metafiction, and I'm inclined to think 3.0 fits more in line with the former as you suggest.

I'm reminded of that one youtube video which did a four hour long autistic blow-by-blow on the metafictional elements in Twin Peaks. I would be very amused to discover that 3.0+1.0 had the exact same "everything is a meta-analogue" symbolic formula.
