I imagine most people get into anime coming from videogames or comics and start with stuff like battle shonen, but I came from a film buff background looking for weird arthouse stuff: Angel's Egg, Mind Game, Night on the Galactic Railroad, Belladonna, etc etc. Not that I haven't watched random trash too over the years.
