Cold open would help sell the confusion and disorientation Shinji feels when he wakes up to the audience, as well as to long time Evafags. I dig it. Though I imagine they wouldn't do that because the Rebuilds were intended to be more accessible, and the cold open might go right over people's heads, and they'd say some shit like
