She’s an introverted high school student who struggles with social interactions and self-identity, who has to undergo a journey of self-discovery; pretty formulaic and done to death in the realm of media>pretty formulaic and done to death in the realm of mediaBut not in anime/manga, at least not in a shonen. Having a female lead at all in a mainstream shonen is already a rarity, especially one who receives as much characterization as Asa. This trope might be common in live action, but not at all in any currently popular anime, so its going to feel very unique to most watchers, in particular casual watchers. Also, it's not like it matters that the trope itself has been done to death because Asa's journey has been rather unique so far by virtue of being written by Fujimoto and due to the story taking place in a devil infested world. There's also Yoru who took over Asa's body, giving it even more of a unique touch. I feel like Asa's story has been very unique. Can you give any examples of other popular anime that are similar to this? You can't man, be for real.
