I compare it to "television". There's only so many times you can watch a police procedural or a medical show or a sitcom or a drama that runs for season after season before it just becomes boring.
Not that there wouldn't be variety in live action tv, there is and I've enjoyed many series, but it's not just the same kind of variety that animation as a medium brings, whether that's narrative or artstyle.
A lot of anime are also quite short. Longer than films, but shorter than typical television seasons, let alone complete stories that those seasons tell. Even two cour or above that series always feel different, because they rarely tread on their place, or if they do it's by design, being SoL or episodic, and it's easier to stomach a 20 minute idea than a 40 minute one, unless I'm really into the setting or characters. I love X-Files for instance, but there are a lot of duds.
Beyond that I just like animation in general. I love anime. Cute girls are a plus.
