First: Mami is the first to fall, Madoka presumably detonates her soul gem and manages to kill Walpurgis
Second: Mami also dies quickly(?), Madoka exhausts her magic to do it
Third: only Madoka and Homura, both exhaust their magic

Also, Sayaka wasn't in entire control because she did try to impede Homura from using her shield. She took a kick in the stomach, failed at this and had to hide herself.
