>>164830441I'm a huge fan of Mizusawa Megumi's works in general. Her works are very sweet and never...malicious? It's not to say her stories are sugary sweet or anything, but they're always wholesome and never edgy for the sake of being edgy.
Himeko is a lovely, flawed heroine that I really enjoyed watching mature over the course of the series.
She and Pokota are the better, original versions of Mirai and Mofurun. The anime is serviceable, though the production values are pretty weak compared to Akazukin Chacha and Nurse Angel Ririka SOS (probably Kodocha level but I can barely remember Kodocha at this point), and it added filler and at least two new toys later on in the series. I do remember a certain scene being over-dramatized in the anime that gave me second-hand embarrassment when I first watched it as a tween, but that's the only thing I can remember being worse in the adaption. It's probably like that in general though.
Iirc, Hime-chan no Ribbon was instrumental in launching the successful careers of SMAP and Ohtani Ikue. But it lost funding toward the end of its run, so much of the final episodes had to be recaps. The anime's ending is also different from the manga's.
I'm personally not a fan of the manga remake though. It lacks the depth and sweetness of the original without Mizusawa's writing. Himeko in the original wanted to become more feminine out of admiration for her older sister, whereas Colorful!Himeko is a tomboy due to having two brothers, and wants to become more feminine because she found a model in a magazine kind of cute or something. The one good change was replacing Pokota with Erika with how outdated that element was
(then Maho pulled it anyway) and so that Erika would no longer be a creepy voyeur.
Also omake chapters were drawn to celebrate Ribon's 60th anniversary and those may take years before they'll ever be scanlated.
