2011 fags can't comment on manga accuracy. Also, the music and animation in 2011 is shit compared to the hand drawn cells and music used in 99. Yes, there's filler and some events play out of order, but the filler fits in nicely to the point where you wouldn't even know it wasn't a part of the series originally if the anime was your only exposure. The tone is darker but sets the mood nicely and there's a lack of censorship that 2011 also suffers from. 99 not having the hisoka vs castro due to deadlines or budgetary concerns is unfortunate but the overall quality of 99 greatly out- performs 2011 in every capacity otherwise. Hand drawn cells will ALWAYS be more appealing than digital and the basic fact that 2011 fucks up from the beginning while also having no sense of creativity, musical ineptness and a completely inappropriate tone makes 99 the superior work.
If I were to make a comparison, 2011 is a poorly traced drawing of the work on a comically oversized lined notepad, while 99 is a beautiful painted tribute to the series on a small canvas that not only respects the work, but adds further depth in its own meaningful way.
2011fags are just too lazy to read the fucking manga and don't have the brain power to comprehend why an animated work would go above and beyond when converting static images to an animated, thriving world, and can only ad hominem about how "edgy" 99 is while hypocritically referring to the series as a "soft seinen" to appeal to their faberge egos and give themselves a false sense of superiority because other anons spoonfeed them the themes and references to other works that they'd never understand on their own otherwise.
