>>244226268I also think Witch Watch tries to do too much. It’s closest comparison is Gintama, but Gintama is just a lot more well written all around. The problem with Witch Watch:
1. It’s had/comedy reliant. Comedy based series are just a lot more risky on popularity because of the nature of comedy. You might have a cap depending on what type of comedy you write too. Also Witch Watch comedy is just nothing to write home about.
2. Tries to have serious arcs. Not that they’re bad, but they’re not special, and they take away from the slice of life which some people will hate in a comedy/slice of life series.
3. At least in comparison to Ruri, there’s a lot more male focus. Most of the major characters are male.
But honestly I just think Ruri hit the “hooray Yuri!” “Hooray cute female MC” Fanbase, the same ones that hyped up Lycoris Reocil”.
If Witch Watch turned every male character except the MC into females, then turned the black haired male MC into a side or minor character, and kept everything the exact same, it would be a blockbuster
