Vilaguilio, however, wants to see the cycle begin for whatever reason that hasn't been explained, which pairs up with what Moid has in mind. His followers, KISS, are under the belief he is also trying to stop it, so really, they're just poor deceived sods that were caught at the wrong place at the wrong time.
You must also remember a large part of the KISS fleet split up from the main group we see at the end, and went to stall Le Garite's retrieval fleet. You can consider those guys martyrs.
All in all, I'd say that's pretty tragic.
