I'd rather they concentrate on other IPs but I'm happy they're doing this. It means they're actually listening and soft rebooting like people wanted. For their sake, I hope they don't fuck it up this time though, because if they do, the whole idea of a shared DC cinematic universe is pretty much over.

Honestly the more viable option over trying a DCEU would've been to do a Gotham EU, and do standalone films fleshing out the backstories of Batman's Rogues Gallery - Penguin, Riddler, Ivy, Catwoman, Clayface, etc, before doing the "Avengers" style team up movie.

That would've been epic.

It's usually best to at least have a plan for a potential franchise and if it doesn't work out they'll just cancel all future plans. Happens all the time for a lot of movie franchises. I remember the Lost in Space movie back in the 00s planned on being a trilogy.

That being said, there's good reason to not have faith, especially if they're wanting something more than a trilogy, which has been a standard for superhero films before the MCU.

Nah if anything, they'll look at receptions of previous DCEU movies and try to avoid a similar fate and also look at the more Kirbyesque movies and their positive receptions, like Thor: Ragnarok.

Honestly tho, Batman doesn't need to be the center of it anymore than Iron man is the center of the MCU. It's already an unspoken truth he's often upstaged in his own movies. Arleen Sorkin/Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Mark Hamill/Heath Ledger/Jack Nicholson/Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker, Michelle Pfeiffer/Eartha Kitt/Julie Newmar as Catwoman, Frank Gorshin as the Riddler, hell even Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald was the crowd favorite in the Gotham series. Make it about them and their stories. The real star of the show should be the City of Gotham itself, not Batman.

In order for the DCEU to work, you're gonna have to either go the route of the animated show, or you've gotta re-acclimate audiences to the pulp genre that made the DCEU work in the first place. The alien/mythical/crime/horror/fantasy/scifi/detective elements all make sense as a mashup in the same universe when you read them as separate stories in the same monthly pulp (a la Weird Tales or Black Mask), but make less and less sense when an audience is removed from that genre of storytelling.
