Forgive me for any mistakes, haven't read the series in a while, but wasn't the lesson at the end of this, when the icewings could only evade certain extinction by using animus-enchanted earrings enchanted by a dragon from another tribe, that they needed help from other tribes to survive and that they shouldn't have been closed off?
That doesn't fucking work here, at all. Darkstalker's problem and entire existence only occured when Arctic fucked off with Foeslayer because reasons. If anything, they should have closed off earlier so this wouldn't happen.
And this happened to the tribe with the most responsible animus usage. Not only did they have to lose their animus heritage when Arctic fucked off and had it live on in the seawing monarchy where an animus just became a fucking murderer, this had to happen to a tribe where the animus dragons didn't suffer through the soul shit or whatever simply because they already gave their one possible animus gift to the tribe. They were REALLY done dirty.
