School teacher here.
Anime has grown in mass popularity with kids as of late to a point they are no longer considered that niche. Last year when I was interning a second grade class there was a Spirit Week with one of the weeks being Super hero day (wear a shirt/merch related to super heroes) and like a quarter of kids had My Hero Academia stuff.

I imagine the reason is Netflix making this context super easy to access.

Most Disney productions now try to downplay romantic angles and play up 'family' and 'friendship' themes. In something like Nu Tales, the only staright couples (Donald and Daisy, Scrooge and Goldie) are Golden Age leftovers.
Buster and Babs were made into siblings instead of a romantic couple now, and in Animaniacs they neutered Yakko and Wakko's intense attraction towards women almost entirely.
And so on.

Oh yeah them too, but I singled out FtMs cause I'd say there's much less of a taboo against women adopting masculinity than there is for men (especially straight men) adopting femininity, so it's not as much of a commitment for a girl to larp as an anime boy. With MtFs they have to accept that they might look creepy and autistic, rather than goofy but harmless, so I think them transitioning is less likely to just be because they were following a fad

That's it. The endless stream of the forgettable, cookie cutter comedy/adventure/character drama flick is simply unappealing, especially when most of them have the art styles similar enough that you can effectively transplant the characters between them without actually changing their designs and have them look like they belong. Kids are simple, providing them with the fun, quality stuff to absorb it's the adult's job.
