>>137571005I had an interest in comics as a kid in my single digits (I knew they existed, I saw them in cartoons like KND and I was curious about stuff like Hellboy) but I didn't know where to buy floppies because I grew up post-crash
I would check out Shonen manga at my library since we had plenty of that (Dragon Ball, FMA, and Pokespe but just those Best Of compilations until I found out about piracy sites)
There was barely anything western there though, at least that I checked out with the limited selection
Just a trade of Ultimate Spider-Man, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, the Sandman, and Brubaker(?)'s Captain America which I read when I was in my very early double digits
I guess my first real western comic was Calvin & Hobbes in grade school which I read all the time when I wasn't reading books about the supernatural or Bionicle
My mom did take me to an LCS because she misunderstood what FCBD meant and I picked up a single issue of Simpsons comics and Mega Man because they were familiar
I ended up buying two of the same issue because one had Ice Man as a variant cover and I assumed it was an issue where they fought Ice Man. I thought variants were stupid as a kid.
I didn't get a chance to read it in depth but there was a best of Grimlock compilation in said elementary library in my last year there
I don't recall much in Junior High but at High School there was a pretty solid chunk of comics available like Silver Age Spider-Man, Silver Age Green Lantern, Persepolis, Concrete, Clan Apis, My Friend Dahmer, etc
I read those and a trade of The Goon I got from my LCS but it wasn't until college I seriously got into the hobby after reading their library's selection of comics while waiting for classes
Rumble, Sin City, and even a black & white compilation of golden age Shazam including the Monster Society of Evil
