>>142214805That’s a really loaded question because it gets into highly politicized discussions about the conscious versus unconscious mind model of the human brain and Freudian shit that’s objectively wrong and whatever, but I would say the TLDR is that to some extent, you can influence people via hypnosis regardless of what they want. There is some sensitivity to it, but hypnosis is a force that has to be intentionally resisted rather than a fully consensual activity, it’s just very easy to shrug off its impact if you try.
If you don’t believe me, try letting someone skilled hypnotize you with a butterfly induction or something similar. If you’re susceptible, you will have to put active mental effort into not falling asleep. You’ll feel your eyes fluttering and rolling, and your mind will struggle against it. Primary sources and all! With mental stuff, it’s best to experience it yourself to see if it’s legit.
