most people are straight, but we can still break that down into aggressively horny and not that insane or desperate. However, 'not desperate' men are conditioned culturally to PRETEND to be cartoon wolves with their eyes bugging out any any and all signals (especially when other men are around calling them 'fags' for not enthusiastically acting aggressive) whereas the opposite cultural training happens for women: the aggressively horny heterosexual woman is pressured to chill the fuck out. Then you have gay men, who are also pressured to be more private and less aggressive and lesbians are the opposite: free to be aggressive.
So the sexualization of women is overwhelming: horny men, men who might not be as horny but don't want to be constantly harrassed by other horny men for not seeming to be as horny as possible at all times (Prove you are a man! Act like a desperate fool all the time!) and a liberating / freeing affirmation of identity for lesbians.
Women are shamed for being horny (for men) and gay men are also looked down on unless they adopt a 'repectability politics'. This makes the apparent lust for women seem comparably overwhelming but it wasn't so for Greeks or Romans.
