I've been a Democrat for 27 years, and consistently vote Democrat because I agree with their political policies. But unless you constrain yourself to local in-person caucuses the Liberal culture right now is absolute dogshit thanks to twitter's ability to amplify morons.
The list of requirements to be a good liberal when Obama was elected was this:
1. Support universal healthcare and social security.
2. Treat women, lgbt, and minorities normally.
3. Pro-Abortion
4. Gun control
All of them fairly simple asks that didn't require much sacrifice. Thanks to twitter, the current additional requirements to be a good liberal are:
1. Actively encourage and support trans people, following guidelines that contradict reality, and if you disagree with any of it even slightly it means you want to throw them in concentration camps.
2. Applaud homosexual and female sexuality.
3. Hetero male sexuality is evil and to be ridiculed or scorned.
4. White men are the root of all evil and must constantly apologize for being rapists and what people who looked like them 400 years ago did.
5. Popular history and fiction must be rewritten to increase the role of minorities and women. Even in times and places where the minorities weren't present and the women were barred from participation.
6. Wanting conventionally attractive characters in your media means you are a sexual pervert. (An assertion in line with saying that someone who wants a nice tree for Christmas rather than a Charlie Brown special is a treefucker.)
The degree of self-flagellation required for a white guy to be a liberal has reached the point people joke about them being sex predators because why would you put up with it without ulterior motives. Its not that the Democratic party failed to win them over, it's that the liberal culture actively drove them away and then they voted culture rather than paying attention to policy.
