That's boring and what I mean by it feeling like a lot of stuff in possession is coming to revolve around what feels more like mental corruption/brainwashing/mind control by another name.
But I think Japanese also just conflate the two as being one in the same. I remember a long time ago, it used to be that if you'd search for possession stuff in Japanese, you'd find equal amounts of mind control mixed in. The multi body stuff was basically a boon for them because it allowed them to just combine both actual possession and mind control into one.
