The American 'working class' is usually quite fit, as jobs like roofing and construction are good exercise in themselves, with no requirement of gym visitation. Though many people go to the gym for their recreation time.
In terms of food, 'junkfood' does not make you fat, having too many calories does. If someone is poor, they can tend to lose weight due to buying less food in general.
