that OS is sick joke. imagine gatekeeping a kernel that wouldn't even turn heads in 1981, being so primitive in virtual memory mangement and providing a unix api with zero novelties or innovations.

Many OSes have existed which are architected as an OS atop a VM - to name a few, IBM i and AIX/RT.

It is. But in any case all System i (and System p as far as I know) machines run all OSes under virtualisation (it's called a logical partition), so you can actually discern two levels of virtualisation here.

Some system information from my OS, implemented a new Terminal app, one that is no longer restricted to bitmap fonts so now I can have pretty fonts (in the image, the Terminator font is Vera Mono).
A simple process listing just for debugging info, the timing ticks will get converted, entries is the number of times the respective process was scheduled (too many schedules for Akimitsu is ok, it's the window compositor so it's supposed to be scheduled a lot, but there has to be a bug somewhere in the SystemBar or maybe I should invalidate the cache of the surfaces for the window buttons less).

How long is a timing tick? It looks like it could be a nanosecond.
What libc are you using, or is it wholly custom?
How have you structured the virtual memory manager? And in relation to that:
- Do you have a page cache? A buffer cache? A unified page/buffer cache?
- If you have a page cache, what approach do you to take page replacement? Global (Clock?), local?
- Do you have page-out/swapping? Or some other mechanism for memory reclamation during VM pressure?
- Do you have a tmpfs? Does it have zero-copy mmap()'ability?
