Did Germans really emigrate to America to such a extent historically? Does anyone have sources that goes into detail on German migration to America?

Yes, and people are surprised by this because the German immigrants integrated extremely well after WW1. Other ethnic groups like Irish and Italians WE WUZ to this day and would rather refer to themselves as such rather than simply as Americans.

Germans are the largest White ethnic group in the US but that map is a bit misleading because it doesn't show population density. A lot of the counties out west are virtually uninhabited. Many of the largest population centers are predominantly Irish and Italian.

Yes, you can see the results through census data, cultural influences, cities. In colonial times Germans started coming in large quantities due to religious wars in Europe, that is how Germantown in New England was formed. You can see German historical figures, like a Prussian officer was head of training the revolutionary army or President Eisenhower, who was ethnic German.

Religious persecution, and wars have been driving Germans towards America since colonial times. Like Russian persecution drove alot of Volga Germans to the South of the USA. After both World wars more Germans came in large quantities. They were always top immigrantors unril 1960's, but even now alot still come over.

Depends, before ww1, most, after not many. There exist programs, like summer camp about learning German, or people learning from family, or if you live in a German community like Fredericksburg in Texas. They do exist, and I run into a German speaker every once in awhile.

Lots of Americans are a mix of different european groups that actually started getting along better once they weren't living in their old countries anymore.
For me my maternal grandfather was 100% Italian but his parents moved to the US from Italy so that's just a given. My maternal grandmother is 100% Lithuanian despite her family having been here since 1850 so she must've come from a community in Pennsylvania that didn't interact with other groups much.
My father's side is a little more complicated because his family line has here since pre-revolution, and apparently Lincoln's wife is in our family tree which makes me think we probably have some distant relatives in Kentucky. Supposedly my father's line is directly descended from General Horatio Gates from the revolution but I haven't looked into it much.

You're forgetting that Mexico in many ways still has the racial caste system the Spanish put in place when it was New Spain. Lots of Spanish people lived in Mexico as the colony's ruling class and even the poor ones that moved there from spain got preferential treatment over the indingenous and mestizo people by sheer virtue of being white. The Mexicano Blancos are a sizeable group even to this day and a bunch left for the US during the 1910 revolution because they backed the wrong side.

If you didn't know his name and never heard him speak and thus had never heard his very thick accent, you'd never know Del Toro is Mexican from looking at him, and his family has been in Mexico a really long time. As someone that lived in Jersey for the first 9 years of my life and goes back every few years, our state does a terrible job advertising itself to neighboring states because all of the shittiest parts of the state are at the borders to other states so that's what everyone out of state sees when they look across the rivers.
By contrast, the vast majority of actual land in Jersey is suburbs (and the pine barrens swamp in the southeast), if our border cities disappeared we'd possibly be the only state that is 100% suburbs without a city that those suburb people commute to.
