https://desuarchive.org/his/thread/9469475/#q9469533bullshit liar. the concept of Han was ethnic from the beginning and the term Han was used as an ethnic term for over 1,600 years.
Han people originally referred to their ethnicity as Hua during the Zhou dynasty 3000 years ago. This continued into the Qin and Han dynasty itself (Han dynasty was founded in the 200s BC and ended in 220 AD)
Han then became the primary name alongside Hua over 1,600 years ago due to barbarians calling the Hua people as Han.
Han was literally chosen as an ethnonym to distinguish indigenous Sinitic people of northern China from barbarians like the Xianbei (who saw themselves as culturally Chinese and wanted to use the term Hua as the cultural label while using Han as the purely ethnic label)
The Xianbei and other northern barbarians referred to the Hua people as Han because they remembered that the Han dynasty lasted for over 400 years and the Han dynasty destroyed the Xiongnu steppe oue of Mongolia so the name Han was engraved into their minds permanently in association with the majority Hua ethnicity of China.
the Xianbei said that from then on the people would be referred to as Han. Before that, Han used Hua as their ethnic endonym.
https://desuarchive.org/his/thread/9469475/#q9469533The Northern Wei, Tang dynasty, Liao dynasty, Song dynasty, Jin dynasty, Ming and Qing dynasties all use Han as an ethnic term which excluded barbarians on a basis of ethnic blood descent, not culture. Han ethnicity is passed on paternally from father to children.
There were multiple non-Han minorities like Miao during the Qing dynasty and they were never called Han.
