Why did Koreans become more Americanized than the Japanese when the US basically rebuilt Japan from scratch and even rewrote its constitution?

Korean elites had no respect for average koreans because just like most elites in this world, they weren't the natives. They were most likely Chinese and then Mongol mutts who subscribed to their father cultures (korean women got Chinkd and Mongold). And who would blame them? Korea had a much weaker identity as an independent state compared to Japan. It was never "part of China," but it was very much an associated dependency that delegated its external affairs to China and modeled its high culture and government around what ancient Chinese philosophers thought was exemplary.

So once the Chinese had been soundly defeated by first the UK and then Japan, Koreans inevitably sought out new models of leadership and progress. First Japan, and after Japan's defeat at the hands of the Soviets and US these two nations became a model for North and South Korea respectively (although there is today very much a tendency in both Koreas to strenuously deny and downplay their borrowings from both cultures, and a taboo but nevertheless unmistakable preference to attribute more progress in Korea to even the hated Japanese before the influence or contributions of racially alien white interlopers).

It is an interesting thought, and if it were in fact the case that many upper-class Koreans have Mongol, Manchu or other ancestry classically considered "barbaric," it would obviously be hidden by Korean society. There's a tantalizing theory that the paekjong class were actually the descendants of Jurchen refugees which seems plausible when you consider what their occupations often actually involved (animal husbandry and slaughter, meat preparation) and how much the negative stereotypes surrounding them are also characteristic of those held about the Jurchens.

Not really. After the occupation was over Japan basically went back to pre-war society aside from the militarization, the burgers purposefully let them go back to that to exploit right wing nationalism as a shield against communist influences. All the occupation legislation was repealed or sidestepped quickly, just look at the zaibatsu > keiretsu transormation.

No, I meant that we LITERALLY rebuilt the country. The amount of cities we left completely devastated with our firebombings is jaw-dropping when you stop to read about it. The country was in shambles long before the nukes dropped.

Christianity is probably the main reason. Christianity as we all know is opposed to all tradition and history so that will obviously quicken the deterioration of native values if adopted.

Also US installations in South Korea from what I know is more often in urban areas whereas in Japan they're on various islands, which means there will be less contact.

The Japanese eradicated Korean culture while they were otherwise busy raping the peninsula before WW2, then it got turned into a proxywar between US and China/USSR
Up until getting buttfucked by the Japanese, they had a distinct Chinese satellite culture not that different from how Japan developed

This is a Korean myth. Korea was simply a poorer, less developed copy of China with funny hats for most of its history. See, the Koreans have a bad habit of building up shit about their history to make them seem more relevant and sophisticated than they actually have been up until the late 20th century. Case and point: THIS was what Seoul looked like shortly before Japanese colonization.
