>Mum used to work at a cardiovascular practice>One of the doctors there was a doctor in New Guinea during WW2>Used to occasionally share stories about the war>Unit he was with had been hiking through the jungle and had come across a small beach>Bodies of nurses, doctors and aid workers strewn about the place>Only a tiny handful of armed guards, but the rest were unarmed>Japs had backed them into the water and machinegunned the lot of themNot to mention decapitating unarmed, kneeling soldiers and forcing people into slavery on the Burma railway among other attrocities. The Japs were absolute animals and there was a fairly strong anti-Japanese sentiment among the older generation that lived through WW2 here for a very long time. Only reason it's started to go away is that most of them are dead now.
