Despite what some claim on 4chan, Japanese don't mind foreigners so long as they make an effort to assimilate. That means learn the language to fluency (or higher) and follow the cultural norms. It doesn't particularly matter what country they're from either.

Japan isn't a race-based society. The focus is put on ethnicity, not skin color (I understand that in English - particularly American English - ethnicity is like a polite way to say "race" but that's not what ethnicity is). To put that another way, there is a world of a difference between a black guy from America and a black guy from Nigeria. There is a difference between a white guy from Canada and a white guy from South Africa. There's a difference between an "Indian" guy from Australia and a guy who's actually from India.

Ethnicity is all learned traits which can be changed. If you learn our language, adopt our values and participate as a member of society than we have no reason to dislike you. But if you come here and put yourself in a gaijin bubble than we will ignore you because you have made yourself invisible by living separate from society despite occupying space. And if you cause problems like JohnnySomali or the myriad of streamers, or the Turks up in Saitama, than we will hate you.

I don't think this is exclusive to Japan either.
