Here's a quick, simplified rundown.
Liberalism comes from the times of nobles, serfdom and guilds. If you weren't involved in one of those three, you didn't exist.
Once better farming technologies were invented, nobles didn't need as much serfs as they did, so they just kicked them out.
Those people weren't allowed to sell their goods and services, because guilds did that and the ex-serfs didn't belong to any guilds.
Then they started the Liberalism movement, which preached equal opportunities for everyone. Fuck nobles and fuck guilds, we want to do whatever we want to. We want to forge our own future.
Does that sound familiar? That's because it's the foundation of American ideals.
