>>49190750It happened during filming "Flesh and Blood" (1985).
Basically producers were disturbed by original script, because it was featuring a part where Martin (mercenary, Rutger Hauer) was supposed to be a "thieving, murdering, and raping scoundrel" in this role, so they wanted rewrite it and make it more like a "Usual medieval saga about love"(Because of ratings, ofc). However, Verhoeven was against any changes and expected that Rutger Hauer would be on his side, but guess what. He wasn't. Because he had a head on his shoulders and he supported producers instead. So, Verhoeven was pissed ofc(Cuz how he dares to have his own position and not following me like a blind dog on leash) and basically after that stopped inviting him for filmings and he was also making sure by using his reputation, that everyone else (who wasn't filming B-grade movies) would also not invite him.
tl;dr Verhoeven was not letting Hauer to feature in good movies after 1985
